Official lineup has been released for The Meadows Festival coming this September and it’s tough to argue that this isn’t the strongest festival lineup hitting NYC this Summer. The lineup skews somewhat hip-hop heavy, which I don’t mind at all, but there’s definitely a solid variety of genres to keep things fresh throughout the weekend. The fact that Big Boi and Ghostface Killah are halfway down the bill shows how stacked this lineup really is.
Gorillaz are an obvious huge draw here, but it’s also worth noting how many New York artists that got put together for this one. You obviously have Jay Z and Nas representing Brooklyn and Queens, but other artists like LL Cool J, TV On The Radio, Action Bronson, De La Soul, Joey Bada$$, and Flatbush Zombies are going to put on one hell of a show for their home crowd.
This Meadows lineup puts an absolute beat down on Panorama, and I don’t consider Governor’s Ball a true competitor only since both Gov Ball and The Meadows are operated by the same company, Founders Entertainment. If I’m ranking the “big 3” of NYC Summer festivals, it’s The Meadows in 1st, Governor’s Ball 2nd, and Panorama 3rd, with Afropunk getting an honorable mention.
I’ll have a more in-depth analysis of each festival as they approach, but for now I’ve put a few songs below from some artists on The Meadows lineup (looking to have a comprehensive playlist out soon, but these are just a few tracks to get started.)
