Wiz Khalifa – “Stay Stoned” (Redbone Remix)

Wiz keeping up the trend of putting his own twist on popular songs by dropping his own version of Childish Gambino’s “Redbone”.  Not as good as Gambino’s original version but still a solid track. Wiz really has a knack for these types of songs going way back as far as 2011. Check out a few examples below.

Today’s Tunes – Tuesday, May 2nd

Welcome to Today’s Tunes where I’ll be posting a collection of a couple songs that I’m listening to that particular day. There’s no criteria for the songs, these can be any genre, old or new, doesn’t matter. Here are today’s tunes:

“Illuminate” – Ab-Soul feat. Kendrick Lamar

One of the very first tracks that got me in to Ab-Soul when I first started really digging in to the TDE roster. Ab-Soul gets somewhat overlooked with the popularity of Kendrick and Schoolboy Q, but tracks like this one show he’s just as talented as his other TDE counterparts. If you haven’t really checked him out before, other recommendations for Ab-Soul are “Tree of Life”“D.R.U.G.S.”, and “The End Is Near ft. Mac Miller”.

“Disdain” – Knuckle Puck

I’ve been really fucking with these guys heavily lately, just some good old-fashioned pop punk coming out of Chicago. Pretty similar sound to other bands like Neck Deep and The Story So Far, so if you’re a fan of those guys definitely give Knuckle Puck a listen. Other song recommendations are “Calendar Days” and “Pretense”.

“Here Come The Girls” – Trombone Shorty

Absolute BANGER off the most recent album by Trombone Shorty, Parking Lot Symphony. This dude is just a total master of fusing jazz & funk, plus if you don’t like some well-placed horns you might have a big dump in your pants. He’s widely respected across all genres and has a whole laundry list of artists he’s worked with across all genres. If you want to hear more, check out “Something Beautiful”“Hurricane Season”, and “Do To Me”.

Frank Ocean Not Done Releasing New Music, Drops Two New Songs Featuring Young Thug & Travis Scott

The Frank Ocean comeback tour getting even stronger. Coming off his release of “Biking” and a feature on Calvin Harris’ hit “Slide”, Frank gives us two new tracks “Slide On Me” featuring Young Thug and “Lens” featuring Travis Scott.

Even the biggest Young Thug haters (myself included) are going to have a hard time not enjoying this song. You can’t not love the soft vibe with that guitar picking in the background.

P.S. It still kind of blows my mind that Frank got his start with Odd Future.

Haim Drops Trailer Teasing New Music

Looks like the Haim sisters are going to be blessing us with their long-awaited second album this upcoming Thursday, the 27th. Although the video doesn’t explicitly state that an album is what’s coming on the 27th, I think it’s more than likely.  Also, can’t wait for there to be another round of Fleetwood Mac comparisons once the album comes out. Making that basic ass comparison is the same as saying Cole Beasley and Julian Edelman are real “Wes Welker types”.

If you’ve never listened to Haim, they’ve got a really nice R&B influenced soft-rock sound going on. I’ve got a couple recommendations below to get you started, and make sure to check out the new album (allegedly) this Thursday.

Riot Fest 2017 Lineup Announced

Genius move here by Riot Fest further diversifying their lineup this year. For anyone unfamiliar, Riot Fest is a primarily Punk Rock held in Chicago every year. The lineup is still skewed towards Punk, but has some AWESOME Hip-Hop acts in there as well. Wu-Tang, Mike D (DJ set), Action Bronson and more give a nice little change up to all the Rock acts on there.

The other big news with the lineup announcement is Jawbreaker reuniting after 21 years. If you were a kid in the 90’s and listened to any type of punk/emo, these guys influenced any band that you listened to. Awesome headliner choices for all three days, any of you Chicago fans out there definitely should consider hitting this up. Tickets on sale here via Ticketfly.
